Complete Guide: Installing Expansions in Forza Horizon 6

Forza Horizon 6 officially launches on May 19, 2026, with Early Access starting May 15 for Premium owners. The game comes with two major post-launch expansions, and getting them installed correctly depends on how you acquired them and which platform you’re playing on. Here’s everything you need to know.

1. How to Get the Expansions

Before installing, make sure you own the expansions. You can acquire them in these ways:

2. Installation Steps by Platform

Xbox Series X|S

  1. Go to My Games & Apps from the home screen.
  2. Highlight Forza Horizon 6 and press the Menu button (three lines).
  3. Select Manage game and add-ons.
  4. Choose Manage installation on your preferred drive.
  5. Find your expansion (e.g., Expansion 1), check the box, and select Save changes. The download will start automatically.

Windows PC (Xbox App / Microsoft Store)

  1. Open the Xbox App and go to My Library.
  2. Click on Forza Horizon 6.
  3. Scroll to the Add-ons section.
  4. Find the expansion you own and click Install.

Tip: Make sure you have at least 130–145GB free for the base game and all expansions.

Steam

  1. Open your Steam Library.
  2. Right-click Forza Horizon 6 and select Properties.
  3. Go to the DLC tab.
  4. Check the box next to your expansion. Steam will download and install it automatically.

3. Activating Expansions In-Game

Installing the files doesn’t always unlock the content immediately. To access expansions:

  • Progression Gate: You usually need to complete the game’s intro or reach a certain campaign level before the expansion becomes available.
  • Map Icon: Look for a dedicated travel icon (helicopter, train, or similar) on your map. Drive to it to trigger the cutscene and enter the expansion area.

4. Troubleshooting Missing Content

If the expansion doesn’t appear:

  • Licensing Sync: Restart your console or PC to refresh licenses if the game says you don’t own the expansion.
  • Manage Queue: Check the download queue; some expansions appear as “Ready to Install” and won’t start automatically.
  • Standard vs. Premium: Game Pass standard version does not include expansions. You need the Premium Add-ons Bundle to access them.
